Mike Vick was once the face of the NFL. He had tons of profitable endorsement deals that slipped through his fingers when he was convicted of murdering dogs. Many believed that his career was over and wrote him off. Those same people are feeling pretty stupid these days after Vick's reemergence this past season. Not only did he score big on the field, but now he's once again scoring big off of it.
Vick will be the new corporate pitch man for Unequal Technologies, the company who makes the pads he wore for the Eagles this year. According to USA Today, Vick signed a two-year deal which will be officially announced Thursday.
"We're real excited about it," chief executive officer Rob Vito said Tuesday. "Michael is good people. He paid his dues."
The terms of the deal have yet to be released, but are said to be quite lucrative for Vick who regained his old form in 2010-2011.
"The Unequal technology is a part of my game now and I won't play without my Unequal," Vick said in a statement acquired by the Associated Press. "Unequal's protective power gives me a whole new level of confidence in my game. It makes me feel invincible."
While I don't know how invincible Vick is, I do know that he's gotten his act together enough to get some fresh opportunities and that's admirable.
The first man he should be calling to say thanks is Tony Dungy, because without Dungy, Vick probably wouldn't have received another shot.
