Around here, I call it like I see it, whether anyone likes it or not. This new Nike commercial should get your blood pumping in anticipation of next months World Cup in South Africa. It features some of soccer's biggest stars and is entitled "Write the Future."
Former NBA stand out and current radio personality Calvin Murphy took time out to voice his opinions, true or not, on the Delonte West/Gloria James fiasco on ESPN's 97.5 The Ticket radio broadcast.
A rumor surfaced last week that West and Gloria James had been involved in an intimate relationship with other. The first site to report on it was TerezOwens.
High School ballers get more explosive with each passing year. Here you have Jelan Kendrick and Eric Ferguson freaking the alley-oop together. The two were competing in the Nike tournament of Champions. Jelan is heading to Memphis to play for the Tigers, while Ferguson is going to Georgia Southern.
Sports fans can be some of the most obnoxious jerkoffs on the planet when they want to be. Whether it's the NBA, NFL, NHL, or MLB fans speak up and speak out when they see fit. I can remember being an undergrad and being one of the biggest assholes in the world at school sporting events. I actually gave the business to our head basketball coach during games. He deserved it, but that's an entirely different story.
On Tuesday night, long time NBA official Joe DeRosa had a little altercation with a fan that is quickly becoming big news. At the half of the Boston/Orlando game, a fan behind the scorers table had a few choice words for DeRosa. The 18 year vet fired the game ball at the heckler, who actually caught it and threw it right back. By the looks of the video, DeRosa then requested some assistance from security to handle the belligerent fan. See it here.
Commissioner Stern doesn't have much tolerance for referee criticism, but this isn't your average case of a blown call. Although the entire incident was harmless and nobody was injured, DeRosa lost his cool and let his emotions dictate his actions towards a fan. It wasn't smart and I bet he gets fined or suspended. I'll be keeping an eye out to see how the league office handles the situation.
What do you think about it? Let us know in the comment section.
Rafael Nadal is the best tennis player in the world on clay. His dominance isn't up for discussion, but if you don't believe me, feel free to track down top ranked Roger Federer. Roger just lost to Nadal at the Madrid Masters this past weekend, 6-4, 7-6 (5). The French Open begins this Sunday, and Nadal will be debuting his new Nike sneakers. Follow the link to get a look at the new kicks.
Here are a few links to keep you entertained, and a Paris Hilton MMA video. I'm not a big fan of PH, but her attempt at mixed martial arts training was enough to generate a laugh or two from me.
Former multi-time world champion Roy Jones Jr. hasn't had much success in the ring lately, but that hasn't dampened his spirits out of it. Jones recently teamed up with a Pittsburgh casino for a unique tic tac toe challenge. Roy's opponent for this event was none other than world renown tic tac toe player, Ginger The Chicken. I won't spoil it for you by letting the chicken out of the bag, so go ahead and see what happens for yourself.
Grant Hill might have done a good job defensively against Andre Miller and Manu Ginobli during the first two rounds of the playoffs, but Kobe Bryant is an entirely different type of talent. During game 1 of the WCF series between the Suns and Lakers, Hill found himself left alone on an island guarding Kobe. The result wasn't favorable. Check it out.
If Phoenix is counting on Hill to slow Bryant down, then we might as well hand the Lakeshow the western conference title now. It will save everyone involved a lot of time and trouble.
The Cavs suffered a crushing loss at home to the Boston Celtics last night, placing their backs against the wall in game 6 of their eastern conference semi-final series. In case you haven't checked the box score yet, it was 120-88.
The attention immediately turned to Lebron James, who didn't play very well in the biggest game of the year. Don't get me wrong, I think many NBA players would love to say they had 15 points, seven assists, and six rebounds in a playoff game. It's a good stat line for Shane Battier, but not Lebron James. The criticism seems just, as James was 3-14 from the floor and was 0-4 from beyond the arc. His impact on the game wasn't there, and it had nothing to do with the #'s.
The TNT crew weighed in post game and Charles Barkley expressed what I think a lot of people felt on Tuesday night.
Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Brian Kenny are always entertaining when they're together. The two have had their fair share of heated interviews over the years, but it's clear they have a lot of respect for each other. In this ESPN clip, Money Mayweather puts the beat down on a heavy bag with Kenny's picture on it, while Brian observes with a rather concerned face. Check it out.
One of America's most well known and read magazines is going 3-D. That's right fellas, you will now have the ability to check out Playboy Playmates in 3-D. Let me not jump the gun here. I can say for certain that the June issue will be in 3-D. It will feature hot model Hope Dworaczyk on its cover, and will come with a pair of super cool 3-D glasses. She at one time dated NBA point guard Jason Kid.
For Playboy, this is an attempt to boost some sagging sales numbers. The men's magazine has seen it's circulation drop from 3.15 million in 2006, to 1.5 million in 2010.
"What would people like to see in 3-D? Probably a naked lady", said founder Hugh Hefner.
I couldn't agree more Mr. Hefner. Naked women are cool, and naked women in 3-D are just flat out awesome. I can't think of anything better than having the chance to look at hooters in 3-D. What about you?
This is one of the coolest wrestling videos I've run across. I grew up worshipping Ric Flair and The 4 Horseman like many kids in the 1980's, so this is kinda awesome.
I just wanted to take a moment to thank all of the readers and fans out there from the 182 countries around the world that have visited Sports with Mr. Factoid. You better believe that I see all of you who take time out to visit this site each and every day. Keep stopping by.
As I sit here watching the Mayweather v. Mosley replay, here are a few links that I thought you may enjoy.
Just when you thought it couldn't get much worse for Tiger Woods, it did. After facing heavy criticism Sunday for withdrawing from the Players Championship, Monday evening his swing coach Hank Haney resigned.
For those who follow a bit more than the NBA, the EuroLeague Championship was decided on Sunday night. They have a Final Four as well. Regal FC Barcelona defeated Olympiacos(Greece) to win their second EuroLeague title. Former Memphis point guard Juan Carlos Navarro claimed Final Four MVP honors. Young sensation Ricky Rubio, who chose to hold off on the NBA, is also a member of the new championship squad. If you check the roster you will find a couple of other familiar names.
Al Horford is going to be a stud in the NBA for some years to come, and in game 2 of the Atlanta/Orlando semi-final series he served Ryan Anderson & Marcin Gortat a baseline facial for the ages.
The Orlando Magic had an exceptional performance against the Atlanta Hawks in game 1 of their eastern conference semi-final playoff series. The beating handed down by the boys from Florida resulted in a 43 point loss for coach Mike Woodson and his Hawks.
Dwight Howard was his usual beastly self. This next play, and several others made by Howard during the first half left the Hawks scratching their collective heads for answers.
Amare Stoudemire has racked up some serious frequent flyer miles this year against some of the NBA's best. On Monday night, STAT and his Phoenix Suns soared to victory over the San Antonio Spurs, and while doing so Amare had a chance to meet Dejuan Blair up close and personal. Welcome to the playoffs rook. Check it out.
The whispers about the NBA's best point guard aren't very quiet anymore. With the Utah Jazz knocking off the Denver Nuggets in six games, more and more Deron Williams lovers are coming out of the closet. If you've been checking out this blog for a while, then you already know how I feel about Mr. Williams and his skill set. It's unnecessary for me to comment on how long ago I said he was the best. That's another conversation all together.
Check out D Will here as he raises up on Ron Artest during game 1 of the western conference semi-finals.
I'm just glad Ron Ron cut his hair and left that purple and gold design alone. There should be an age limit for guys cutting crazy ass designs into their heads. I'm just saying.
Mo Williams isn't known for his explosive leaping ability, but that doesn't mean suckas should test his hops. The Cavs and Celtics hooked up for game 1 of their eastern conference semi-final matchup Sunday afternoon, and the Q was rocking all game long with plays like this one from the home team.
