Don Nelson passed hall of famer Lenny Wilkens on Wednesday night to become the winningest coach in NBA history. Nelson won game #1,333 by defeating the Minnesota Timberwolves 116-107.The Original "Nellie" has been calling plays in the association for 31 years. I just turned 30 in March, so that should give you some additional perspective. Nelson has coached the Milwaukee Bucks, Golden State Warriors(2), New York Knicks, and the Dallas Mavericks during his years in the NBA.
Despite having won more games than any other coach, Nellie hasn't won an NBA title in that role. He was however named coach of the year on three occassions. Old school Celtics fans remember he won five titles as a player.
"It's just such a neat feeling," Nelson said. "This is probably why we end up coaching, for moments like this."
