Monday Link Dump: What Caught Factoids Eye?

Ok, sorry to any followers out there who missed me during Thanksgiving. The holiday came and it took me with it. I'm back though and excited about where things are headed.

Great NFL game tonight. The Patriots v Saints has all the makings of a MNF classic. Brady v Brees, Colston v Moss, and Belichick v Payton. Both teams want to get this W, but I believe it's a bigger game for New England. A loss to Indy and New Orleans will sting an ubder confident Pats team.

Tiger is dominating the headlines with this accident. There is speculation about domestic violence, mistresses, and of course infidelity. I for one am not certain what happened with Tiger Woods and his wife, but there is one thing I am certain of, and that is the fact that Woods' squeaky clean image ain't so squeaky anymore.

Charlie Weis finally got the axe in Notre Dame according to various reports today. Weis, who still had 6 years left on his contract will apparently be looking for work elsewhere after failing to transform the Irish back into one of the most elite programs in the country. Weis's career record stands at 35-27.

Here are a couple things that caught my eye today.

Serena Williams Fined $82,500 for US Open Tirade.

Serena Williams was fined $82,500 for that US Open incident a few months ago. Williams was hit with the largest fine in the history of professional tennis. She was also placed on a two year probation. If she is involved in similar behavior at any major tournament in the next two years she faces suspension from the US Open and a fine of $175,000.

The fine isn't what concerns me here. The probation is what I have a problem with. I understand a need to conduct the game in a professional manner. It's a global product that needs to have a positive image. Organizations have to have it that way. I believe that you fine and move on.

For Williams, every future circumstance will be different from what happened at the US Open. When Serena disagrees with something now, every piece of what she says will be scrutinized above and beyond what it was in the past. She's is being told not to argue calls, not to question 'authority', and to keep her mouth shut for two years.

I don't think that you should take a players ability to question away. The officials and others are people who can influence the game if they see fit. Tennis isn't baseball. The players argue. Connors and McEnroe argued and cursed more than any pair in tennis. When they disagreed they questioned, and when they didn't get the answers they were looking for they yelled, screamed, and threw expletives like left hooks. Serena isn't different and shouldn't be treated different than Connors and J-Mac.

I hope that she will appeal the decision and seek a way around the probation.

Tuesday Link Dump (11/24/09): What Caught Factoids Eye

It's a proud day here in my hometown. St. Louis is honored to say that Albert Pujols is the MLB National League MVP. The guy plays the game the right way every single day. He is a class act and I hope that he continues to have great success right here in St. Louis.

Random Rant: Is it me or are the same teams in the BCS title picture every year? It seems that way, but not so much this year. At least USC and Oklahoma are down. I'm not saying that to down either program, because they have produced some top tier NFL talent, but how many times must the public be forced to watch the same teams? Ohio State, Florida, and Texas have been models of BCS success and that continues this season. I'm tired of them too. The system needs some new blood.

Who would have thought that the Steelers would have lost to the Kansas City Chiefs this past Sunday? That had to be one of the most embarrassing losses of Mike Tomlin's young coaching career. I understand that on any given Sunday any team can win, but you couldn't have expected this seasons Chiefs would be able to defeat the Steelers. Nice job KC.

Here are a couple of things that caught my eye today.

NBA Video: Derrick Rose Throws Down on Greg Oden

Derrick Rose has an abundance of raw natural ability. If you don't believe me you can just ask Greg Oden, who became a recent recipient of a D-Rose facial.

The next time that Oden comes over on baseline help, he may want to do so just a bit faster. It's always the man that tries to help that ends up on the poster! I would luv to see Mr. Rose in this years slam dunk competition at All-Star Weekend.

Video: Ron Artest on Jimmy Kimmel

Ron Artest certainly doesn't have to try very hard when it comes to odd behavior. The Los Angeles Lakers star forward is one of a kind, and we should all thank God that there aren't more nuts like Ron Ron out there. I love the guys energy and enthusiasm on the basketball court, but Artest's off the court antics usually can be considered comic relief.

Artest took some time out of his busy NBA schedule to appear on the Jimmy Kimmel show, a program that I must say has made it's way onto this blog on several different occasions. Artest appreared in boxer shorts and no shirt. It's a two part interview, so check it out.

NBA Video: Josh Smith's Tip Dunk Winner

The Atlanta Hawks continue to roll this season. On Friday night former slam dunk champion Josh Smith played the hero in the A-town. With just seconds remaining Smith completed a tip dunk off of a Mike Bibby miss to secure the victory for the Hawks over the Houston Rockets. The final score was 105-103. With the win the birds improved to a league best 11-2, and now have a seven game winning streak.

At the end of the game not using the fundamentals can hurt you. Somebody from Houston has got to find Smith and block him out. If you block out the game heads to overtime. The smallest things can make the diffence between winning and losing.

Factoids Picks: NFL Picks for Week 11

We have arrived at week 11 of the NFL season. Last week was full of injuries and even a couple upsets. Who would have thought that the Bengals would have beaten the Steelers for the second time this year? I certainly didn't. Last week I went 9-6, which as far as I'm concerned isn't all that hot.

A couple of games on Factoids radar this week are the Falcons v Giants and the Chargers v Broncos. Both games have playoff implications and could prove to be huge confidence boosters for the winners.

Here are my picks for Week 11 of the NFL season.

Boxing Video: Floyd Mayweather Interview after Pacquiao v Cotto Bout

This is an interview that has been garnering a lot of attention the last couple of days. The day after the Pacquiao v Cotto fight, Mayweather sat down with Sky Sports to voice his opinion on several topics. PBF expressed his views on the Pacquiao v Cotto bout, Manny ducking him, and what the end result would be if he and the Pac-Man hook it up. Check it out.

If Top Rank and Golden Boy can come to some sort of financial terms, a Mayweather v Pacquiao fight would be one of the biggest attractions in professional boxing history. Cross your fingers fight fans and say a little prayer to the boxing Gods.

Boxing: Factoid's P4P Rankings

Factoids P4P rankings is back and better than ever. I had to wait a little while for some action in the ring before I could publish a fresh list. Since the P4P rankings debut back in August we've had some good fights, a few massive knockouts, some cancellations, and definitely some controversy in the boxing world.

Feel free to go back to the original rankings (link above) and compare those with the new set.

1. Manny Pacquiao- welterweight/jr.welterweight

The Pac-Man maintains his spot atop the P4P rankings after a very one-sided beat down of Miguel Cotto. I don't think anyone in the boxing community anticipated Manny would destroy Cotto the way he did. With the victory he became the first boxer in history to win seven world titles in seven different weight classes. Pacquiao has become boxing biggest sensation and he is poised for a matchup against the former #1 Floyd Mayweather, that's if both sides can agree on the money.

2. Floyd Mayweather -welterweight/jr.middleweight

Money Mayweather made a triumphant return to the ring in September with a victory over Juan Manuel Marquez. Floyd showed little signs of ring rust during the bout, displaying the ring generalship that had him at the top of the fight game prior to his retirement. Mayweather says he wants to fight a couple of times a year for the next few years, which is great news for boxing fans. As you read this post negotiations are under way to make a Pacquiao v Mayweather bout a reality. That fight would be one of the biggest in boxing history.

3. Juan Manuel Marquez-lightweight

Marquez drops only one spot from the last set of rankings. Despite being manhandled by a "bigger" Floyd Mayweathter Jr., Marquez is still recognized as the best boxer in the lightweight division. Juan still wants another shot a Pacquiao, but he will have to wait in line for a shot at the Pac-Man.

4. Paul Williams-welterweight/jr. middleweight/middleweight

Williams and his camp thought they had a shot at the middleweight title, but Kelly Pavlik was forced to back out twice due to a staph infection on his left hand. The "Punisher" will now take on jr. middleweight title holder Sergio Martinez on December 5th. Most P4P rankings list Williams as a jr. middleweight & a middleweight, but Paul claims he can still make the 147 pound welterweight limit. That is why I list him in all three divisions. The boy is a beast!

5. Shane Mosely-welterweight

After a KO victory of Antonio Margarito in January, 'Sugar' Shane Mosely wanted to fight Manny Pacquiao, but negotiations fell through between the Golden Boy and Top Rank camps. He then tried to get another shot at Miguel Cotto. That story ended the same as the first. After all the bobbing and weaving, Mosely will finally get back into the ring against young Andre Berto in January. It's not what Mosely had in mind, but it's an opportunity to pick up another trinket title belt.

6. Wladimir Klitschko-heavyweight

Let's face the facts. Heavyweight boxing is dominated by fighters outside of the United States. The key belts are held by the Klitschko brothers and newly crowned WBA champion David Haye. Wladimir Klitschko, who holds the IBF and WBO titles has been off work since June when he used and abused Ruslan Chagaev. Dr. Steelhammer has a proposed fight with American Eddie Chambers in March.

7. Bernard Hopkins-light heavyweight

B-Hop and Roy Jones Jr. appear to be on a collision course, but before they can get it on for the second time, Hopkins needs to get past Enrique Ornelas on the 2nd of December. Hopkins hasn't been in the ring since October of 2008, when he outclassed middleweight champion Kelly Pavlik. If and when Hopkins defeats Ornelas, a Jones Jr. bout would take place sometime early in 2010. Jones also needs to get by Danny Green.

8. Ivan Calderon-light flyweight

The light flyweight king has had a couple of ugly fights against Rodel Mayol in the last six months, but still remains the WBO champ. At 33-0-1, Calderon is an underrated and vastly unknown commodity in boxing. He's a tough little guy with a skill set to match. His next fight is TBA.

9. Chris John-featherweight

Chris John took care of business in his September rematch with Rocky Juarez by claiming a unanimous decision victory. John improved his record to 43-0-2 with 22 KO's. The Indonesian star recently fell ill, but is expected to be fine. If you aren't familiar with John, he defeated my #3 guy Juan Manuel Marquez back in 2006 by UD.

10. Nonito Donaire

Donaire stays put at #10 on my P4P list. Nonito claimed the interim WBA World super flyweight title in August with a victory over Rafael Concepcion, but like Chris John fell ill not long after. I've never heard of dengue fever, but it slowed my #9 and #10 guys down for a spell. According to reports he has recovered and will likely fight in February.

**With the Super Six World Boxing Tournament underway, it was difficult for me to rank any of the super middleweights involved. With that said, I will wait until the completion of the first few rounds before reevaluating their positions.

Notables: Chad Dawson, Tomasz Adamek, Vic Darchinyan, Josh Clottey, Juan Manuel Lopez, Rafael Marquez, Israel Vasquez, Timothy Bradley, Lucian Bute, Celestino Cabellero

Well, that is the updated P4p list the way that I see it. Please feel free to comment if you disagree.

Tuesday Link Dump (11/17/09): What Caught Factoids Eye

I just wanted to take a moment and thank all the folks who stop by and check out Sports with Mr. Factoid on a regular basis. This blog is rolling thanks to all of you. If you ever have a question or concern don't hesitate to drop me an email or comment on one of the posts. I will do my best to accommodate your requests, as long as they are reasonable. This site started as a hobby, but with each passing day it becomes more of an obsession and that is thanks to the thousands of readers that have graced me with their presence. So I say thank you again and keep on coming back. Sports Rule!

I'm almost positive that I wasn't the only person that thought last nights Monday Night football game sucked ass. The Browns are terrible. I am wondering who's idea it was to have such a bad team on in primetime. MNF this season has been awesome, but that trash last night ruined a good run.

ESPN is running a 24 hour college hoops marathon and I'm absolutely loving it. UCLA took the fall right of the bat to Cal State Fullerton. Even though the Bruins were not ranked, that still counts as a major upset. I'm locked in for the rest of the day, guaranteed!

Today's headlines have included the firing of Buffalo Bills head coach Dick Jauron, Zach Greinke winning the AL Cy Young, and Golden State Warriors guard Monta Ellis requesting a trade out of Oakland. It's been a good sports day so far.

Here are a few other things that caught Factoids eye today.

Video: Kentucky's John Wall Hits Game Winner over Miami (OH)

The University of Kentucky is looking to turn around their hoops fortune this season. The Wildcats brought in coach John Calipari and top recruit John Wall in order to get the program back to an elite level. It looks like they are off to a good start.

With just seconds remaining on the clock Miami of Ohio guard Kenny Hayes drilled a deep three pointer to tie the game at 70. Hayes pulled up from well beyond NBA range and with ice water in his veins knocked down a huge shot. The situation at that moment looked bleak for UK, but freshman John Wall received the inbounds pass, dribbled up the floor, and took a shot that Wildcat fans will not soon forget.

With plays like this one the Kentucky faithful are in for a long roller coaster season. Coach Cal is going to need a strong defensive effort on a nightly basis if he expects his team to have a high level of success this year. Wall lead his team in scoring with 19 points.

NBA Video: Dirk Hits Game Winner in OT to Beat the Bucks

Dirk Nowitzki has arguably the best jump shot of any big man in NBA history. The Mavs star can light it up with the best scorers in the league. Just ask the Milwaukee Bucks, who saw Dirk use and abuse them on Monday night.

The Mavs and Bucks battled through four quarters and an overtime period before one team could walk away the winner. Nowitzki, who had an awesome statistical performance(32 points, 11 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 steals, and 1 block), once again played the hero for Dallas by drilling a 20 foot jumper at the buzzer to seal a win for the Mavericks. Check it out here.

NBA Line of the Night Plus Video....55 points from rookie Jennings

Brandon Jennings spent a year overseas getting ready for the NBA, and it has clearly paid off. Jennings had a spectacular game Saturday night and earned line of the night credentials. His performance broke the Milwaukee Bucks rookie scoring record, which was previously held by the great Lou Alcindor.

Jennings had 55 points, 5 boards, and 5 dimes. He was a 7-8 from three point range and shot only eight free throws, connecting on six from the stripe. Dude led both team in minutes played with 40:43.

Note: Jennings posted 0 points in the first quarter and 29 in the third! WOW!

Friday the 13th Link Dump: What Caught Factoids Eye?

As a kid there was something about Friday the 13th that always made the hairs on my arm stand up. Maybe it was the fact that I could count on a Friday the 13th movie marathon to keep me glued to the TV, or how my friends always had some bizarre and fictional tale about murder and mayhem on my block. The day back then was way cooler than it is as an adult.

This Friday the 13th its all about the NBA game tonight, the Pacquiao v Cotto weigh-in, and some college football. I'm not anticipating watching Jason Voorhees terrorize the kids at Camp Crystal Lake, but instead I'll catch some of Friday Night Smackdown and chug a couple 40 ounces. Yes, I said 40 ounces! It's a long story.

My point is that Friday the 13th just isn't what it used to be. I'm not scared to run across a black cat in the street, but I am scared to think of what will happen if I fail to set my fantasy hoops lineup. That has the potential to be a real nightmare! Maybe when I have some little Factoids things will be different, but until then this day has lost all of its luster.

It's early, but lets see what has caught my eye this morning.

Factoids Picks: NFL Picks for Week 10

With the return of Thursday night football I was forced to submit my picks about 48 hours before I normally like to, but oh well. Last week I went 8-5, which really sucked in my opinion. The teams that I felt uber confident in let me down, so I'm hoping to get back to my normal double digit weekly win total. Just so all my peeps are aware, my record on the year is 85-44.

The game of the week has to be New England vs Indianapolis. The Colts come in still undefeated, but very banged up on the defensive side of the football. The Pats have found a groove and look to improve to 7-2 on the year. There isn't a better matchup in football than Brady vs. Manning!

Garbage game of the week has to be Oakland vs KC. The Raiders vs Chiefs contest is going to be a snorefest without a doubt.

Here are my picks for Week 10 of the NFL season.

Video: Ricky "Fatton" Hatton on WWE's Monday Night Raw

Ricky Hatton guest hosted last nights Monday Night Raw. The Hitman did a decent job as GM and put together some alright matches. He was in my opinion better than his boxing counterpart Floyd Mayweather, who hosted Raw prior to his win over Juan Manuel Marquez back in September. Sheffield, England was hyped up to have one of the United Kingdom's finest prize fighters in the building to run Raw.

As you can see from the footage, Hatton has packed on the pounds since his last bout. That shouldn't come as a shock to those who have followed Ricky's career over the years. He generally walks around at a much higher weight, which explains the Ricky 'Fatton' persona he lives outside of the ring.
At this point Hatton has not planned any return to the ring and who can blame him? His last two fights ended with nasty KO losses. The Englishman is currently committed to promoting fights, eating, and drinking. Way to go Ricky!

NBA Video: Air Bonner Soars Against Toronto....Dunk You Very Much!

Matt Bonner isn't known for his vertical leap or tremendous athletic ability, but Air Bonner took flight last night against the Toronto Raptors. This type of extraordinary moment happens very seldom for Bonner, and that reason alone is why he gets his dunk posted here. Check it out.

If the Red Rocket continues to posterize chumps like he did last night he may find himself in this years slam dunk contest. Not! Brent "Bones" Barry is somewhere grinning from ear to ear.

Tuesday Link Dump (11/10/09): What Caught Factoids Eye?

So Brady Quinn is going to get the start in Cleveland this weekend. Is it really going to make a difference? I seriously doubt that it will and the dog pound will be left upset yet again.

The Browns are an organization in complete disarray and this move in just another piece of evidence to submit to the judge. Quinn was the man to start the year and he failed to get much of anything going. The team traded their franchise wideout Braylon Edwards to the Jets after he punched one of LeBron's hommies. Eric Mangini's hand picked GM was fired, yet he still maintains his post as head coach. Derek Anderson stepped in and was as pathetic as a starting QB can be in the National Football League. I don't think any further comment is necessary.

I need to start playing poker! Early this morning 21-year-old Joe Cada won $8.65 million at the World Series of Poker in Las Vegas. Cada is the youngest player to ever win the tournament. The runner-up, Darvin Moon still walked away with $5.18 million. That's great money just to play cards!

I've never been a big water sports guy myself and maybe it's because I never learned how to swim. Yea, that's right, I would probably drown in a kiddie pool from Wal-Mart. I'm not ashamed to admit that at almost 30 years of age I never became a proficient swimmer, but that my friends is besides the point.

In the following clip a young diver cracks her skull on the springboard just after takeoff. The boards force was strong enough to catapult her into the middle of the pool. It's not pretty, but fortunately for her she managed to get out of the pool without any assistance.

This is the first time that I've seen a diver hit the front of their head or face on the board. Most folks that follow diving remember the great Greg Louganis hitting the back of his head during the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul.

Boxing: Floyd Mayweather vs Paul Williams Needs to Happen

Most boxing fans are anticipating the upcoming Manny Pacquiao vs Miguel Cotto fight on the 14th, and rightly so. It has potential to be one of the best fights of the last few years(That's the thing about boxing, it's always about potential). Both guys are promoted by the same man, Bob Arum. That fact leads me to believe that everyone will come out financially better than they went in, however it plays out.

Paul Williams was scheduled to face Kelly Pavlik next month. It was cancelled a couple weeks back, and now Williams will instead face Sergio Gabriel Martinez. The bout will take place on December 5th at the Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City. Williams was until Wednesday the interim WBO light middleweight champion and Martinez is the WBC light middleweight champion, however it's a nontitle bout and it will be fought at a weight above 154 pounds.

Williams was anticipating his next fight to be for the middleweight title. The Pavlik bout was going to expose him to a new fanbase and be the springboard to mega-money fights. That dream for the moment is on hold for Paul "The Punisher" Williams, but it shouldn't be.

For Williams, his style has created some exciting fights so far in his career, so why not let him have a shot against Floyd Mayweather. Pavlik vs Williams was going to be a huge night for HBO, even though it wasn't scheduled to be a pay-per-view fight. I feel confident in saying Home Box Office was anticipating a nice Nielsen rating. At this point Williams has a larger name than ever before because of the Pavlik cancellations. This would be a prime opportunity for his promoter, Dan Goosen to really push the Mayweather camp for a fight next year.

A lot of you boxing fans have already heard the interview Floyd recently had with a radio host on the East Coast. It wasn't pretty. Mayweather says he wants to continue to fight, but I've been asking myself who exactly is he gonna fight against?

He claims Bob Arum won't put Pacquiao or Cotto in there with him because of a personal vendetta. Shane Mosely is a freak on steroids, who supposedly ducked him way back when, so he gets dismissed. The list of good welterweight contenders is long. You've got guys like Josh Clottey, Luis Collazo, Andre Berto, and Kermit Cintron. Those guys won't draw enough money for 'Money' May though. Even if you step up to 154, the list of candidates thins out some, but there are still bouts that could be made. Most people, and I can't blame them, tend to forget about my hometown champion, Cory Spink. That bout is a stretch, but so is this post.

Paul Williams is a real opponent for Mayweather to not only collect a nice payday, but to also prove that he is as good as he claims to be. His last seven fights have been rather one sided for a couple of reasons. He was faster and bigger. In this bout the weights match up perfectly. Floyd stays at or around 147-149 pounds generally and Williams still claims that he can get down to 147 with no problem. When Mayweather fought De La Hoya it was at jr. middleweight and Mayweather came in at 149, five pounds under weight.

The fact that Williams is tall shouldn't mean much. Antonio Margarito wasn't exactly a small welterweight himself. Williams matched up against him and came out the victor. Floyd's defense would be a nice alternative to Paul's height.

I can go on for days about the physical matchup. My point is this. As we speak Floyd Mayweather still wants to box and draw big dollars. Paul Williams has become a name, a name that is bigger than it was a year ago, when he shyly said he would like a shot at a retired Mayweather. He's an actual draw. The time has come for the whispers to become roars for this fight between the Punisher and The Pretty Boy.

I've always heard that styles make fights and it's very true. These two certainly have styles that can make this a classic bout.

Video: Break to Build-Jordan Brand Commerical

I really like this Brand Jordan commercial. The break to build theme is so fitting in professional sports. It's all about working hard to improve yourself and your game. D-Wade, Melo, CP3, and Derek Jeter made the rounds in this one.

MLB: Yankees Capture 27th World Championship

The New York Yankees added another World Series title to their trophy case on Wednesday night, bringing their championship total to an incredible 27. New York defeated the Philadelphia Phillies 7-3 in game 6 before a jam packed Yankee Stadium.
It was a long year for the Bronx Bombers, but they did a fantastic job of handling adversity early in their season and playing solid team baseball when it mattered. I don't claim to be a Yankee fan, but I say congratulations to the the entire New York Yankee organization on a tremendous accomplishment.

Candy of the Night...

NBA Line of the Night

The Lakers have been playing it close the last couple of nights against Oklahoma City and Houston. Kobe Bryant has been nothing short of magnificent during both games.

Kobe posted the line of the night with 41 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists, and 4 steals. He was 15-30 from the field and 11-15 from the charity stripe. Bryant led all scorers as L.A beat Houston 103-102 in OT.

Video: Manny Pacquiao Sings on Jimmy Kimmel

Manny Pacquiao has the biggest fight of his career coming up on November 14th against Miguel Cotto, but you wouldn't know it from his appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Tuesday night. The Pac Man is a boxing sensation the world over and his legend grows each time he steps into the ring, but I didn't expect to witness what happened on Jimmy's show.

Pacquiao grabbed a microphone and performed the classic song, "Sometimes When we Touch" last night on the Kimmel show. The part that had me in tears from laughter wasn't how Manny sounded, because he wasn't horrible, but it was his song choice. It's just hard to accept a boxer singing such a soft and delicate song. Check it out below.

Pacquiao's trainer Freddie Roach has accused his star pupal of not being totally focused heading into his upcoming bout with welterweight star Cotto. After watching this, I can grasp where Roach is coming from.

Link Dump: The Late Night Variety

I'm up at almost 2 a.m. watching the ESPN original series PLAYMAKERS on DVD. It was one of the realist shows about pro sports that has ever aired, and certainly the most revealing about the National Football League. I was pissed when they cancelled it. I'm sure that I wasn't alone in my anger. It really struck a nerve with NFL execs who didn't want their league exposed any further than it had been with the first season.

So many of the issues that face today's players were brought to the forefront that it forced the NFL to quietly persuade ESPN to cancel a fabulous program. Never before had one show about football been so powerful. Homosexuality, domestic violence, steroid use, drug and alcohol abuse and countless other very real subjects helped shape PLAYMAKERS into an instant classic and a one season wonder.

Note to HBO or Showtime: Create another PLAYMAKERS please! It will be a huge hit.

Here are a few things that caught my late night eye.

The Mavs picked up their fourth victory of the season by defeating Utah 96-85.

Candy of the Day...

If the ladies playing pro tennis were able to wear outfits like this one, the ratings would soar to astronomical heights! You better believe it.

Fresh Foot Work....

The Nike Air Force 1 Paul Pierce isn't going to find its way into my closet, but I'm a fan of the Celtics star forward. With that said, will you buy these?

Video: Yankee and Phillies Fans in Mini-Brawl After Game 5

Sports fans are emotional creatures. We live and die on every pitch, every pass and catch, and every alley-oop dunk. Being a fan can be exhausting, but spectators should remember their role and place in the grand scheme of things. You are there to either cheer for your team or be an antagonists for your squads rival, but beyond that it should be about enjoying the beauty of the game.

It's becoming more evident that fans have lost their way. The following clip demonstrates that point perfectly. After the Yankess and Phillies game 5 in the Bronx, a few morons decided to beat the crap out of each other all in the name of their franchise. Check it out.

Tuesday Link Dump (11/3/09): What Caught Factoids Eye?

The NFL season is approaching it's midway point, and we have a couple of teams who have separated themselves from the pack. The Colts and the Saints look like locks for the Superbowl, while the Rams and Titans secured their first wins of the year in week 8.

The World Series has been an umpiring nightmare, but A-Rod is finally earning his money in the post season. I don't think anybody saw that coming at the beginning of the season. Chase Utley tied the great Reggie Jackson for most home runs in a World Series with five dingers. Cliff Lee and CC Sabathia have been magnificent.

The NBA is underway, and some of those so-called experts were writing the Cavs off after they lost their first two games. They play 82 in the league, so lets calm down. The Clippers are once again suffering, as they deal with the early season loss of Blake Griffin. The #1 overall pick is expected to miss 6-8 weeks with a broken kneecap and the one and only Allen Iverson is already unhappy with his role in Memphis.

It's obvious there isn't a shortage of news, so lets see what caught my eye on this vanglorious Tuesday.

NBA Video: Manu Ginobli Abuses Bat on Halloween

During the San Antonio Spurs home game versus the Sacramento Kings on Halloween night a friendly bat decided to stir up a little trouble. Towards the end of the first quarter the creature of the night flew down on the court, forcing the refs to stop the game until he could be removed. Luckily for Spurs fans Manu Ginobli also moonlights as a rodent exterminator. Check it out.

So Manu knocked the rascal down, but did he wash his hands afterward? Bats aren't the cleanest little blood suckers in the world, so I hope Ginobli at least used some hand sanitizer after the hand off.

Factoids Picks: NFL Picks for Week 8

Ok, I missed getting the picks in the last two weeks and I'm sorry to anyone who may check me out before making those last minute choices. I did get 10 out of 13 games correct last week, just so that you are aware.

This week there are 13 games on the schedule, and three of those contests feature undefeated squads. The Colts, Broncos, and Saints are all looking to improve to 7-0 and distance themselves from their division rivals. This slate of games is an opportunity for some teams to separate from the pack, while others are just looking for a light at the end of a dark and dismal tunnel.

Here are my picks for week 8 of the NFL season.

Houston over Buffalo

Chicago over Cleveland

Dallas over Seattle

Detroit over St. Louis

Line of the Night

The line of the night belongs to Andre Iguodala of the Philadelphia 76'ers. Halloween evening was witness to multiple 30 point outings and even a couple of 40 point games, but Andre's all around performance gets the nod tonight. He led his squad to a 121-115 victory of the New York Knicks.

AI posted 32 points, 11 boards, and 8 dimes in 45 minutes of work.

Notables: Al Harrington 42 points, 6 rebounds, 2 assists
Brandon Roy 42 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists, 1 steal
