Video: E:60 Interview w/ Plaxico Burress

In case you missed it when it aired on ESPN, here is the complete interview that Jeremy Schapp conducted with Plaxico Burress. The former New York Giants wide receiver will be going to the penitentiary for two years following his conviction for gun possession.

SI Cover features Usain Bolt, While Promising issue is 100% Favre Free.....

Usain Bolt may be the cover boy for SI's August 31st issue, but Brett Favre is still making news. SI promised that the issue would be 100% free of Favre, just in case you have had enough of the Brett soap opera. The top left corner shows Favre's #4 with a slash through it.
Sports Illustrated released this statement: “Had your fill of Brett Favre? If so, SI offers an escape, promising zero mention of the Hall of Famer on the pages of this week’s 100% Favre-Free issue.”
I think it's false advertising, especially considering that the cover mentions the legends name and number. Maybe the issue is 99.9% Favre free, and honestly that's good enough for me.

Video: Shaq Wears a Pink Speedo....

Shaq Vs has produced decent ratings and two losses for Shaq against other top athletes. After being defeated by Misty May-Treanor and Kerri Walsh in a beach volleyball showdown, O'Neal took a walk down the beach in a pink Speedo. If there are children in the room, you may want to send them away before playing the clip.

Before the game Nelson took some BP and took one over the fence. He later threw out the first pitch. Not only did he go yard, but Jameer put a strike over the plate. The Nationals and Mets may want to invite him to spring training next year!

Boxing: Nevada's Commission to use Instant Replay

The Nevada State Athletic Commission has voted to adopt several new rule changes after its most recent meeting in Las Vegas. The rule changes will impact boxing and mixed martial arts in Nevada, which hosts big fights every year. Both of the new rules will be reviewed by the Nevada Legislative Counsel Bureau for final approval, but there doesn't appear to be any reason that they won't be passed.

The first change is the institution of instant replay. Replay will be used at the discretion of the referee in charge of the bout in cases where a fight has been stopped due to an injury. Keith Kizer, who is the executive director of the Nevada commission said that replay won't be used to determine if a knockdown was caused by a punch versus a slip.

"An eye poke, a cut, something along those lines," Kizer said. "The cut happens, the fighter cannot continue and the referee makes a call whether it was caused by a punch or a head butt. If he feels the use of replay will help him be sure, he can review it. It's no different than the NFL. If the replay is inconclusive, the initial call stands."

The second rule change will allow fighters who have previously experienced serious head injuries, such as subdural hematoma(bleeding on the brain) to apply for a license if medical testing shows that there is no longer any evidence of the injury. Since 1972, Nevada rules have prohibited fighters who have had head trauma to obtain a license.

Kizer expects that both new rules should be on the books within 30 days.

Video: Track and Field.....Usain Bolt Breaks 200 Meter Record at World Championships

Let the madness continue in Berlin. Usain Bolt broke his own 200 meter record by running 19.19 and he once again completely dusted the rest of the field. This latest performance was just as incredible as his 100 meter WR earlier in the week.

Video: UFC's Jake Rosholt Pool Jumping

This pool jumping craze just keeps picking up steam. Shout out to to Steve Cofield over at Cagewriter for posting the video. A few months back B.J. Penn jumped out of a pool and the MMA world went nuts. Washington Redskins rookie Keith Eloi has done it a few times as well.

Jake Rosholt took a stab at it in this video clip and pulled it off both forwards and backwards. If you remember, Penn only jumped out forwards and is a much lighter man than is Rosholt. I'm sure that Jake made Woody Harrelson proud while giving white guys everywhere confidence. The next time some brother says that white boys can't jump, let Caucasians everywhere stand up and shout, "We have Jake Rosholt"! I think I would claim Brent Barry first, but whatever makes your day.

Video: Usain Bolt's WR at the World Championships on 9/16/09

Usain "Lightning" Bolt has taken track and field to an entirely new level. Bolt shattered his own world record at the World Championships in Berlin by running a 9.58 100 meters and still left the competition in the dust. It was just one year ago that Bolt took the world by storm at the Beijing Olympics, running away from the worlds best sprinters, but with his latest performance he has solidified himself as quite possibly the best athlete on the planet! What the young man from Jamaica is doing is truly remarkable. I haven't the slightest idea what language the commentators are speaking in the video, but the result can be understood with or without them.

Video: Shaq vs The Golden Boy....

Shaq Vs debuted last night on ABC, holding down an hour time slot. The Diesel took on Ben Roethlisberger in a 7 on 7 football challenge that provided some humorous moments. I personally enjoyed Shaq's show, but the ratings didn't demonstrate that the rest of the country felt the same. It is way better than the T.O. show, but O'Neal is a more likeable character than Owens has ever been.

The Big Aristotle will have some high profile opponents as the season progresses, including Albert Pujols, Michael Phelps, and from the looks of this clip, Oscar De La Hoya.

Track & Field: Gender Conspiracy?

I was sitting at the computer looking at some fantasy football stats when my girl called from work. I was trying to find a backup defense to take the place of my Steelers when they have their bye-week. It was time well spent, but that's beside the point.

She said, "have you heard about the female runner from South Africa who may actually be a man?"

My reply, " WTF! Are you being serious? No I haven't heard anything about it."

"Yeah, the report I read said that she may actually be a he. You should check it out and put a post together, because it's interesting and different," she said.

At that moment she mentioned some other story, which I have since forgotten about, but I went ahead and performed a google search on the subject. Always listen to the woman!

Caster Semenya is an 18 year-old 800 meter competitor out of South Africa, who recently shaved more than seven seconds off her personal best time by running the event in 1 min 56.72seconds. She is from Limpopo province in South African. It wasn't just her improvement time wise that has created a stir, but her physical appearance has many wondering is she really a he! Semenya has facial hair and is ripped beyond belief, which isn't a crime depending on where you're from. Check the photo attached to the post if you don't believe me.

At the request of the World Track & Field Federation, South Africa's track and field federation has been asked to conduct gender testing to determine if Caster is truly female. The results of those tests aren't expected to be back for weeks, and while we wait Semenya is scheduled to run in a final at the World Championships.

South Africa team manager Phiwe Mlangeni-Tsholetsane didn't confirm that Semenya was having a gender test, but stated “there was no cheating on our part.” “We entered Caster as a woman and we want to keep it that way,” Mlangeni-Tsholetsane said. “Our conscience is clear in terms of Caster. We have no reservations at all about that.”

IAAF spokesman Nick Davies also made comment of the situation, stating "If there’s a problem and it turns out that there’s been a fraud … that someone has changed sex, then obviously it would be much easier to strip results,” Davies added. “However, if it’s a natural thing and the athlete has always thought she’s a woman or been a woman, it’s not exactly cheating.” He said a decision in such instances is “done on a case by case basis.”

This is just a weird story. If it comes out that she is really a he, this will be the strangest story to hit track in field and probably the world of sports in a very long time!

St. Louis Acquires John Smoltz....Dave Duncan will Have The Cure

The St. Louis Cardinals are taking a chance on John Smoltz, who's ERA(8.32) has been horrendous this year, but if it pays off they may end up back in the World Series this year. Today, the Cards acquired the 42 year-old right hander for absolutely nothing. Smoltz agreed on a deal to pitch for the Redbirds for the remainder of the season, and the Red Sox will still be footing the bill.

"We feel that this is an opportunity to strengthen our pitching staff," Cardinals vice president and general manager John Mozeliak said in a statement. "When you have an opportunity to bring the expertise and experience of a future Hall of Famer to your club, it's easy to see why we are excited about the prospects of what John Smoltz can do to improve our team's chances as we approach the stretch drive."

The Cardinals have made significant moves this year to strengthen their offensive production, but this is the first move to improve the pitching staff. The Cardinal faithful will welcome Smoltz, and pitching coach Dave Duncan may be just the man to turn around his season. Duncan gets the most out of his talent, and with Smoltz all he will need to do is tweak a few things.

Fight News: Williams v Pavlik Postponed.....Staph Infection to Blame, Again!

Just when I got amped about a showdown for the middleweight championship of the world, Kelly Pavlik found a way to steal my sunshine. The Williams vs. Pavlik fight has been postponed due to Pavlik's inability to shake a staph infection in his left hand.

November 21st is the date that Top Rank and HBO are looking at to get the fight done. The Williams camp isn't so sure about fighting Pavlik at this point, especially after being left hanging about the postponement. Dan Goosen, Williams promoter hasn't agreed to the November date just yet.

"As you are aware, we've just learned of Pavlik's decision to cancel the press conference and thus the fight and we will evaluate where we go from here," Goossen told ESPN.com in an e-mail.

The WBO/WBC champion hasn't had a fight since February, while Williams is coming off a dominant victory of former jr. middleweight champ Winky Wright. This is the second time this year that Pavlik has had to cancel a fight. Early this summer he was scheduled to defend his title against Sergio Mora, who many may recall from "The Contender".

The one thing that I never do is bet on boxing, so I'm certainly not going to bet that this fight will ever happen after this setback.

Greg Paulus to Lead Syracuse Orange in 2009-2010

Greg Paulus just went from a former Duke point guard to the leader of the Orange in Syracuse. Paulus was named the starter today by Doug Marrone, who is in his first year as the head coach .

Paulus has been competing with Cameron Dantley(Adrian Dantley's son) and redshirt freshman Ryan Nassir for the top spot during the offseason. As a highschool QB, Paulus was highly recruited, receiving scholarship offers from Notre Dame, Miami(FL), and countless other top programs. He still holds multiple New York state records including passing yards(11,760) and TD's(152), and was the 2004 Gatorade National Player of the Year.

Greg never had to redshirt at Duke and he graduated in just four years, so the NCAA granted him a waiver to play one year at Syracuse without having to sit out a year. The Orange have been flat out horrible since 2002, so this is certainly an uphill battle for Paulus and the program. With that being said, I hope that he is able to provide a spark to a team that has had a dead battery for quite some time.

Williams vs. Pavlik a Done Deal for Oct. 3rd?

According to Dan Rafael's latest report, Paul Williams vs. Kelly Pavlik is a go for October 3rd, although boxingscene.com has the fight date set for September 27. Pavlik will defend his middleweight championship against current jr. middleweight champ Williams, at the Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City. The two sides had been working on a deal for several weeks, but negotiations stalled about the purse amount to be shared for the HBO bout.

Before the two parties could agree on the fight, two key points needed to be resolved. The first point was what Williams would earn as challenger. "The Punisher" will reportedly make just under $2 million for his first shot at a middleweight title. The second point of emphasis was ensuring Pavlik would have a rematch clause in case he comes out the loser.

"I'm just happy that we've finally come to terms and gotten this resolved. Now we can move forward," said Williams promoter Dan Goosen.

Bob Arum didn't sound as sure about the fight, but he has avoided the negotiating table because of his tense relationship with Williams manager Al Haymon.

A press conference is likely to be held early next week to make the bout official.

I expect this to be a fight of the year candidate, along with Pacquiao v Cotto, and Marquez v Mayweather.

Sixth Month and Counting.....Thank You to All My Peeps!

I completely forgot that yesterday marked the sixth month for Sport's with Mr. Factoid. In February I had no idea that I would love this as much as I do, but with every passing day I get more hooked. The sports blogosphere is full of great sites, so we have tried to do more than just fit in. I will admit that it's a tough market to crack, but nothing worth doing is ever easy.

At the sixth month mark we've had readers in 133 countries worldwide, had over 23,000 views, and over 17,000 visits. Those may not be Deadspin #'s, but for a small start up blog, I'm geeked about every person who checks us out! We've grown in a short amount of time, thanks to sites like BallHype.com and Sportsviews.com, but we still have a long way to go, so to all those who have become fans and constant readers, THANK YOU SO MUCH! You are making my passion about sports even more enjoyable! If you are new to my site, PLEASE keep coming back! Thank also go out to co-contributor Steven J. Smiff.

I'm still looking for ways to improve what we do here and increase traffic, so if anybody out there has suggestions or ideas, please drop me an email @ easports8009@gmail.com or you can hit me up on twitter @ twitter.com/mrfactoid.

Fresh Foot Work....AJ 13 Fusion

I haven't been a big fan of the Brand Jordan fusion series until I shot over to 23isback.com today. There has been something about the whole concept that just seems cheesy to me, but this adaptation changed my perception and looks damn good! The AJ 13 Fusion is scheduled to hit stores in November.

When the original 13's dropped I was a senior in highschool playing varsity ball. I recall buying a couple different pair that year, as my Jordan fetish was at an all time high and I had a job to support the habit. The 13's were my favorite pair because they were so light and comfortable, but like so many other J's of mine, they got worn out from constant court abuse. My black and red pair are in the closet still, but I would hate for anyone to see how bad they look. Dogged doesn't even begin to describe them!
As you see above, those are the 13's in their newest form. I'm actually considering forking out the dough when they hit shelves in the fall. Will you?

Video: Fan gets Tasered at Baseball Game

Police brutality in this country is nothing new, but when it happens at sporting events in front of thousands of spectators it tends to draw a massive amount of attention. During a game in Oakland, a Texas Ranger fan who had apparently consumed several small bottles of vodka and Lord knows what else became the victim of the dreaded taser gun. Here is a fan's account:

"I was sitting about 5 rows in front of him and he was actually a Texas fan and he kept yelling obnoxiously. The usher who had been very nice went over and made a joke. And dude flipped out screaming and swearing saying get outta my fing face and calling him the n word. They called security and he was still screaming and swearing. So the police came and while they were trying to put handcuffs on him he kept trying to swing at them. So they tasered him and he fell and hit his head."

If you are screaming the N word, being a jackass, and disturbing other fans, you deserve to have the crap smacked out of you, but those tasers are far more dangerous than cops realize. I'm certain that the officers could have found a better way to gain control of the situation before putting thousands of volts into an already drunken fan.

NBA Suspends Rashard Lewis for Substance Abuse Violation

The National Basketball Association has suspended Orlando Magic F Rashard Lewis 10 games for violating the leagues substance abuse policy. My first thought was that Rashard got caught smoking weed. Reefer is the drug of choice for NBA players, except Chris Andersen who prefers white powder.

According to reports, he failed a drug test during the playoffs. His test showed he had elevated levels of testosterone in his system. Rashard tested positive for a supplement called DHEA. It's a drug that's on the NBA's list of banned substances, but not on the list for MLB.

DHEA has been linked to the treatment of diabetes, lupus, and obesity. It also is said to increase energy levels and improve the quality of sleep.

Lewis stated that the DHEA got into his system because he purchased another supplement over the counter. There is no word whether Lewis will appeal the suspension at this point.

Boxing: Factoid's P4P Rankings

I typically check the P4P rankings that ESPN's Dan Rafael posts, but after going online earlier I discovered that the world wide leader in sports wants its fans to pay to review the rankings! I completely understand how bad the economy is, but to force fans to pay for pound for pound rankings is utterly ridiculous.

So with that type of nonsense going on, comes the birth of Factoid's P4P rankings. I watch more than enough boxing, and follow numerous boxing outlets, so trust me when I say that the list won't be very far off base. Let me give a little love to a few sites before I begin. Boxrec, boxingnews24, examiner.com, Bad Left Hook, yahoo boxing, and The Ring do a great job of publishing pound for pound rankings for FREE!

1. Manny Pacquiao- jr.welterweight/super lightweight

The Pac-Man hasn't lost a fight since 2005, and that loss was avenged with a 3rd round knockout over the legendary Erik Morales. Pacquiao has become the biggest draw in boxing based on his exciting style, courage, and the fact the he seemingly doesn't run out of gas, ever! His resume includes wins over a number of future boxing hall of famers, including Ricky Hatton, Oscar De La Hoya, Marco Antonio Barrera, and Juan Manuel Marquez. With Miguel Cotto apparently next in line, and a possible dual with former P4P king Floyd Mayweather looming, Pacquiao is doing his best to stay at the top of the sport.

2. Juan Manuel Marquez- lightweight

Marquez pushed Manny Pacquiao to the limit in two bouts, and lost by only 1 point through 24 action filled rounds. Other than a controversial loss to Chris John back in 2006, Marquez has been every bit as good as Pacquaio. The Mexican icon is coming off back to back wins by TKO over former Ring Magazine lightweight champ Joel Casamayor, and former WBO/IBF/WBA champ Juan Diaz. With Floyd Mayweather upcoming, Marquez has a shot at spoling the Pretty Boy's comeback and possibly lining up a third bout with the Pac-Man.

3. Paul Williams-jr. middleweight/welterweight/middleweight

Paul says he can still make the 147 pound weight limit, yet nobody in the division dares mention his name, although Josh Clottey whispered it! He walked through defensive wizard Winky Wright at 154 pounds in impressive style, and his team is currently in negotiations with Bob Arum and Top Rank for an October fight with middleweight champ Kelly Pavlik. I'm not holding my breath though, as money seems to be slowing down talks. Williams is a threat to all the big names from 147-160, based on his height, reach, and activity level. The scary part is that he is getting better with every fight. Will anyone give him a big money fight? Doesn't seem likely.

4. Shane Mosely-welterweight

Sugar Shane is truly a dynamic talent. He still has excellent hand speed, good movement, and better than average power at 147 pounds. Despite his career five losses(2x vs Wright, 2x vs Forest,1 vs Cotto), Mosely continues to be a very relevant player in boxing. He beat up the "unstoppable" Antonio Margarito earlier this year, but hasn't been able to land another big fight. He wanted Manny Pacquiao and Andre Berto, but talks fell apart for both fights. At this point, he doesn't have anything lined up and I worry that Shane may miss out on cashing in at the end of his career.

5. Wladimir Klitschko-heavyweight

It's not his fault that heavyweight boxing is boring. Wladimir Klitschko has done nothing but destroy all that have gotten in the ring with him, except Corrie Sanders in 2003, but his brother vanquished Corrie to restore the family name. The man with arguably the best jab in boxing continues to win, and win impressively.

6. Miguel Cotto-welterweight

Cotto has come back nicely after that brutal TKO loss to Antonio Margaritto in 2008 with wins over Michael Jennings and the gritty Joshua Clottey. I don't think anyone in boxing was sure if he had recovered mentally from the Margaritto loss until the Clottey fight, which in many ways resembled the loss, but Cotto was able to work through the demons and pick up a huge psychological victory. Miguel proved to be more than a bully when he beat Shane Mosely in November of 07, using every bit of his boxing ability to score a unanimous decision win. He will need everything in his arsenal come this November when he takes on Manny Pacquiao in what has "fight of the year" potential written all over it.

7. Bernard Hopkins-light heavyweight

B-Hop is 44 years old and doesn't have a fight on deck this year. His last bout was against middleweight champ Kelly Pavlik in October of 2008, a fight that saw him completely baffle and confuse Pavlik on way to a huge unanimous decision victory. On a recent edition of ESPN's Friday Night Fights, Hopkins said he wants the winner of Chad Dawson vs. Glen Johnson II. When and if that fight happens, "The Executioner" will be 45 years old and I have to wonder if he will be able to handle the much younger Dawson or the tough Johnson.

8. Ivan Calderon-Jr. Flyweight

Calderon has been dominate at 108 pounds for many years, but doesn't get the attention of many other Puerto Rican stars because guys in his weight class aren't on television very often. He has skills that most boxers would die for and has never suffered a loss. At 34 years of age, his dominance may be coming to an end soon, but until that happens he stays on my P4P list.

9. Chris John-featherweight

John's biggest named opponent was Juan Manuel Marquez, and he defeated him by unanimous decision back in 2006. John is a crafty boxer who has a record of 42-0-2. American fight fans are likely unfamiliar with John, unless you saw his last fight with fan favorite Rocky Juarez in February which ended in a draw. A rematch win Juarez is next.

10. Nonito Donaire-flyweight

Donaire is is the Philippines "other" top boxing star. He has been overshadowed by P4P king Manny Pacquaio in his homeland and here in the US, but he is a star that can hold his own inside the ropes. I'm a huge fan of Vic Darchinyan, but back in 2007 Donaire dropped Vic like a bad habit in the 5th round. He is stepping up in weight his next bout(8/15) to challenge for the WBA super flyweight title against Rafael Conception.

Notables: Vic Darchinyan, Juan Manuel Lopez, Chad Dawson, Tomasz Adamek, Rafael Marquez, Israel Vasquez, Josh Clottey, Hozumi Hasegawa

Well that's how I see it. As fights happen the list will change of course. Please feel free to rip the list apart if you disagree, but in the end it's all subject to opinion.

Fresh Foot Work

Vans and skateboarding go hand in hand like PB&J. The Vans "Off The Wall" Pack features six original models in three traditional colorways, and an even sweeter box to commemorate Vans relationship with skateboarding.

Titans Will Honor Steve McNair with #9 Decal

The Tennessee Titans will honor the late Steve McNair this season by wearing a #9 decal on the back of their helmets during the 2009 season. The report comes via the Tennessean. The former league MVP was murdered last month by his girlfriend/mistress. Tennessee was home to McNair from 1995-2005, and just last year he was inducted into the teams ring of honor at LP Field.

The decal will be worn starting this Sunday at the NFL's Hall of Fame game between the Buffalo Bills and the Titans in Canton, Ohio. The Hall of Fame game is the first preseason game of the year.

Video: Nike Skateboarding Ad

I was searching around youtube for some fresh and cool videos, when I ran across this Nike skateboard vid. I haven't seen it before and it had a relatively new date. The great Ice Cube makes a guest appearance and his classic hit "It was a Good Day" is the featured song. Check it out.

Video: Dan Hornbuckle KO's Akihiro Gono

In a MMA battle at Sengoku Nine over the weekend, Dan Hornbuckle was able to KO former UFC and Pride competitor Akihior Gono with a devestating leg kick to the head. Gono appeared to be in bad shape after the knockout, but according to reports he is expected to make a full recovery.

Video: Alexander The Great Misses Russian Chicks

Alexander Ovechkin is the National Hockey League's most dynamic talent on the ice and possibly its biggest party animal off it. The NHL's MVP took time to do an interview with a Russian TV outlet(Russia Today) recently, and discussed topics ranging from his commercial appeal, to his preference of Russian women versus babes in the US. If you can handle the interpreter for almost 10 minutes, then this is certainly an intriguing interview.

Video: Reggie Wayne is Ready for Work

The Indianapolis Colts ended last season on a sour note, loosing to the San Diego Chargers in an OT playoff battle. Teams that suffer such close defeats generally carry that around for a good part of the off season, and in most instances the players use those losses as motivational tools for the following year.

Colts wide out Reggie Wayne showed up at camp yesterday in full construction gear, with the motto "Superbowl Under Construction" on his hard hat. Wayne sported an orange vest, work belt, and carried a traditional lunchbox. He even pulled up in a dump truck!

Wayne has been one of my favorite receivers because he just makes plays and hasn't displayed "diva" like behavior, but with the departure of Marvin Harrison he is now the veteran receiver on the team and will need to be more of a vocal leader.

His move certainly sent a message to his teammates that Indy is back and ready to reestablish themselves as a top contender for a championship, plus it was funny! Nice job Reggie.

Video: Delonte West's KFC Chicken Rap (Hilarious)

Cleveland Cavalier guard Delonte West and a fella he says is his cousin had a long wait for some chicken at KFC, so to pass the time the two dropped a few freestyles to Twista's latest album. West, who was a key part of the Cavs success last season is a character to say the least. Jim Rome has already declared him the best correspondent that he has ever had on "Rome is Burning", and it's obvious the former St. Joes star isn't camera shy. With the addition of Shaq to the Kings court, I can only imagine the type of antics that will go on next season in the Cavs locker room! Check it out!

Fedor Headed To Strikeforce

MMA Heavyweight, Fedor Emelianenko, who many regard as the best heavyweight in the world, has signed with Strikeforce. This may come to a surprise to most as the heavyweight was negotiating with UFC to fight Heavyweight Champion, Brock Lesnar. UFC President & Fedor couldn't reach an agreement, disputing over co-promotion with M-1 Global, leading the fighter to sign with the competitor. Strikeforce is looking to showcase Fedor with some of their elite heavyweights such as Brett Rogers, Fabricio Werdum, & champion, Alistair Overeem. Fedor will debut with Strikeforce in the fall.
