Adidas plans to take its NBA jersey business overseas, a move that is causing quite the stir on Capitol Hill. Senator Chuck Schumer is fighting along with American Classic Outfitters to keep Adidas from shutting down production at a plant in New York. The plant currently employs more than 90 workers who would find themselves unemployed if the global sportswear giant cancels its current contract with ACO.American Classic Outfitters has been producing NBA jerseys for four decades. I support any move that keeps jobs here in the United States. In the following clip
Rob Knoll, the senior VP at American Classic Outfitters speaks on the current relationship with Adidas and what his company plans to do in opposition of the move.
Mr. Knoll didn't sound very optimistic during his interview and that leads me to believe that any hope of saving the contract may be long gone. I would normally say that any Senator spending time on issues involving professional sports is wasting the governments money and resources, but in this case I genuinely hope that Mr. Schumer and ACO can find a way to convince Adidas to change their mind.
